This page explains how WIAD makes money and what that does, and does not, change about what we publish. We would rather state it plainly than bury it in a footer.
How this site is funded
WIAD is supported by display advertising and affiliate links. When you buy something through certain links here, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
That arrangement creates an obvious incentive to recommend purchases. We manage it in two ways: recommendations state who a product is not for as clearly as who it is for, and “do not buy this yet” is always an available conclusion. If a piece cannot honestly reach a recommendation, it does not carry one.

Anything paid for by a third party is labelled clearly at the top of the article. Advertisers never see copy before publication and never have approval over editorial coverage.
Review hardware
We accept loan units for review. Accepting hardware carries no obligation to publish, and no obligation to be kind. Where a unit was supplied by the manufacturer, we say so in the article.
Sources and accuracy
We link to primary sources wherever they exist. Vendor-supplied benchmarks are identified as vendor-supplied. Where we are extrapolating or speculating, the text says so.
Corrections
Errors are corrected in place, with a dated note describing what changed. Substantive corrections are never made silently. Report one through the contact page.
How articles are produced
Our workflow uses the research, drafting and editing tools that are standard across publishing today. Every article is reviewed by a human editor who verifies the claims and is accountable for what appears. We do not publish anything nobody has read, and we do not present desk analysis as first-hand reporting.
